We’ve just kicked off our series GOD HAS COME from John 1-3. One of the privileges of being a Christian is spending time hearing God speak to us through His Word. To help you spend regular time in the word, we’re publishing the DAILY BIBLE JOURNAL. Check the video for an intro to this week’s readings. Here is the booklet: Daily Bible Journal (mini). The full version will be out in a week. Here’s the weekly vid:

John 1:19-51 // THE LAMB OF GOD

Week beginning Monday 25 July 2011

Weekly Intro

This section covers most of the first week of Jesus’ ministry and kicks off with the role of John the Baptist. Have you ever been on a freeway or motorway and seen one of those little cars with flashing lights closely followed by a massive truck? Yeah? John the Baptist is kinda like one of those little cars. He prepares the way. He says lookout something BIG is coming! Following John the Baptist is Jesus. John the Baptist is preparing the way for Jesus. In the Old Testament it was promised that someone would come and prepare the way for the coming of the Lord. The lights are flashing. Don’t spend too much time this week focusing on John the Baptist, but rather look at the Great One who is following after him.

THE PASSAGE ONLINE

Day 1 – Read John 1:19-28

EXTRA TIME (OPTIONAL) What does Isaiah 40:3-5 teach us about the role of John the Baptist?

Pray

Day 2 – Read John 1:29-34

What do we learn about the identity of Jesus?

What do you think it means for Jesus to be “THE LAMB OF GOD”?

What do you think it means for Jesus to “TAKE AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD”?

How does Jesus take away sin? What other verses would you go to?

What are the different titles given to Jesus in this section?

What do each of them mean?

How did the first disciples respond to Jesus?

How does that encourage you to respond to Jesus?

EXTRA TIME (OPTIONAL) “Messiah” is the term that summarises the many expectations from the Old Testament about the coming of the “anointed one” who would lead, teach and save God’s people. In particular was the King who was to come from David’s family.

See the following passages for more information about this King: 2 Samuel 7:5-16; Psalm 110:1-4; Isaiah 9:6-7.

Pray

Day 4 – Read John 1:43-51

What are the different titles Jesus is given in this section?

How do people respond to Jesus?

In verse 46, Phillip says “Come and See” if Jesus is worth following.

Do you think Jesus is worth following?

Pray
